Along with the big music shop chains, Auckland has a good number of boutique guitar shops that are always worth a visit!
The Guitar Gallery, Queen Street
We’ll start with my favourite 🙂
The Guitar Gallery is an independent store in downtown Auckland, with super friendly, knowledgeable staff. They specialise in used & vintage guitars, basses, amps & effects with a range of new acoustic and electric guitars & amps. Amongst other brands, they’re dealers for Fender Custom Shop, Martin and Lowden guitars.
Bungalow Bills, Khyber Pass Road
Bill Latimer buys and sells quality second-hand, used and new guitars, sound equipment and vinyl records and has been in business for over 35 years. A wonderful character with lots of stories to tell. Always worth checking what he has in stock.
Sail City Guitars, Takapuna
Josh is a former AGS student and runs a high-end boutique guitar, amp and effects shop with some mouth-watering instruments rarely seen in NZ. Very friendly and knowledgeable – well worth checking out his site.
Cadenza Guitars, K Road
(no website – check Facebook)
An Auckland institution, an Aladdin’s cave of secondhand and vintage gear – always fun to see what Eddie has in stock.
Studio 1 Vintage Guitars
Specialises in vintage, rare and premium acoustic guitars. Most of their guitars come from the USA via various private collectors and dealers.
Gokula, Newmarket
A new addition, tucked away down an alley way opposite Westfield, Newmarket, Gokula is a treasure trove of all sorts of secondhand gear, with a room of high-end equipment to boot.
