Fix Your Barre Chords in 5 Steps

Barre chords – ouch! Let’s fix E-shape barre chords in 5 steps.

1. Take an E major chord play it with your last 3 fingers and fret the 6th string only with your index finger – keep the 2 strings near the floor free – move this shape around, write some music with it – it strengthens the E-shape part of the chord.

2. Use the side of your first finger not the underneath – rotate it slightly towards the nut – it’s flatter and rotating your hand makes the stretch easier.

3. Use the weight of your arm, and your biceps to do most of the work – not clamping hard with your thumb. And remember you’re just trying to push the string to touch to fret, no harder.

4. Learn the notes on 6th string to find the root of the chord.

5. Practise songs or even better write your own!
